Some authors prefer to decide a basic outline and then continue the story, according to the demands of the situation. Once you have decided your target audience, it is time to outline the plot and write the first draft of your book. Books for children aged between twelve and sixteen can include relatable teenage issues like outbursts, depression and addiction to technology, and the length of the book can go up to 50,000 words. Most children in the age group of eight to ten are first-time readers, and it is important to keep them engrossed for the duration of the book, hence, the length of the book should not be more than 25,000 words. As the age increases, one can use difficult vocabulary, and illustrations may not be required. Books for children aged five to eight require a lot of illustrations, and the language has to be simple and clear. The author must decide who their target audience is before they write their book. Here are some tips on ‘How To Write Stories for Children’ that will be helpful for any author who wishes to do so : Children usually remember the stories from their childhood for the rest of their lives hence, story writing for kids is not an easy task. A well-written story will capture one’s imagination and stay in their memory for a long time. Most of us grew up reading and listening to tales of valour, courage and bravery, such as Ramayana and Mahabharata, and they are still engraved in every child’s memory. Try asking kids for stories on trust, love, accomplishment, friendship, community, support etc.Stories are an integral part of one’s childhood. They have plenty of time to plumb the depths of tragedy later in life! Ask Children to Write Stories With Positive Themes! Try asking your students to write a story about someone who achieves a long held desire, or gets something they’ve wanted very much for a very long time! This is essentially a simplified version of the ‘Hero’s Journey’ (see Joseph Campbell). Can they write a new story about Harry Potter, or their favourite sportsperson? This way much of the plot, and the characters, already exist, and all they have to focus on is making the best tale they can! Ask Children for Stories Which Feature Positive Outcomes! Ask them to describe football on the weekend, or baking, or mowing the lawn! And to dig right down into the detail: what sounds could they hear? What smells were in the air? What colours were present? Have fun! Kids Can Write Fan Fiction!Īsk your class to tell us a new tale about their favourite fictional character, or real life person. This narrows the focus, and should provide a little more confidence about the nature of the task! Proust, arguably the greatest prose writer of all, went into immense detail about very small things indeed. This is a great way to get them practicing writing about characters, and describing interesting worlds! Ask kids to describe one event, or one thing, in as much detail as possible! ![]() If they are recounting things that have really happened they may feel much more comfortable. Write what you know!Īsk your students to write about their day, about their car journey into class, about their birthday party! Get them writing about what they know. Arguably, we want to keep things generally positive, and not excessively complex. It depends on the age of the child, but here are some ideas to consider when asking children to get writing. ![]() Story writing can be difficult for children! Kids sometimes don’t know how to write stories, or where to begin. While you’re giving these options, you’ll probably get feedback out of your client they didn’t think of before. Tell them for example that you can change the colors and then show them a couple of color schemes so they can actively help choosing. Search for examples and make sure they understand exactly what you’re trying to communicate. ![]() Give them new optionsīuild on the answers of your previously asked questions and present your client with some options about which changes you can make to the design. If you don’t get the answers you want, try having a meeting or video call. It’s just about understanding what they want. Keep in mind this doesn’t mean you’re agreeing with your client’s feedback. The more specific you are with your question, the more detailed the answer hopefully will be. Or ask whether they mean they just want brighter colors. For example, if you want to know what the meaning is of ‘make it pop’ you could ask for an example of a logo they think ‘pops’. So try to understand what your clients really wants to tell you by asking clarifying questions. You can’t improve your designs with feedback like ‘make it pop, premium or sexy’. This way your client will realise you take the project seriously and want to deliver a design you’re both happy with. So don’t take the vagueness personal and answer in a polite and clear way. The thing you want is feedback you can work with. Or in the worst case, they’ll search for another designer. When you answer to vague feedback in an aggressive or defensive way, you’ll probably get a likewise answer with feedback that’s even weirder. Never respond immediately with an angry or aggressive email defending your work like it’s a masterpiece worth millions. This is vague feedback and it can seriously ruin your day! But if you try the following 5 steps, it’ll help you deal with these kinds of situations. You don’t know what the client means, so there’s no way you can improve your design. Now vague feedback, that’s another story… “make it pop”, “can you add premium effects” or “this doesn’t look sexy enough” is feedback we all hate. Perhaps you don’t agree with everything they say, but you can have a conversation and improve your design. ![]() If someone gives you comments in a detailed manner about what they like and don’t like, that’s constructive feedback. Before we get to the steps of dealing with vague feedback, you should know the difference between constructive and vague feedback. This cookie is installed by Google Analytics. Omron had that market cornered, though we spotted some through-stem Omron switches on a Das Keyboard model at CES, and of course Omron is Logitech’s partner on the Romer-G switches. It’s no secret that through-stem lighting is generally a superior design compared to regular switches that have LEDs added on and even Cherry MX RGB-style switches with clear housings. It’s a big deal that these through-stem lighting switches are 1) made by Kaihua and 2) have emerged on the market. The Typelit switches claim an operation force of 50g (+/-10gf), with a range throughout the travel of 40-85gf. The total travel is a bit shallower than a standard mechanical switch (3.6mm to 4mm), and the pretravel is a touch earlier, as well (1.6mm compared to 2-2.2mm). ![]() Azio is calling them “Typelit Mechanical Switches.” Azio said in its materials that this is a modified Kailh Blue switch, but that’s specious the only thing it has in common with a standard Blue switch is clickiness.Īzio wanted the switches to be both clicky and tactile to better simulate a vintage typewriter experience. However, we can infer that Azio had Kaihua customize the design enough, at least, that the company got to stick a proprietary name on them. That may be true, but considering that we already saw (at least a version of) these switches at Kaihua’s Computex 2016 booth, at best the switch maker just fiddled with the specs a bit to suit what Azio wanted.īecause we’ve never seen these switches anywhere else in the wild, we suspect that Azio served as a de facto beta tester for these Kailh switches. The company further claimed that Kaihua made the switches custom. We first saw a sample of these switches at Computex 2016.Īzio told us that its keyboards are currently the only ones equipped with these switches. They look like Logitech’s Romer-G switches, with the through-stem lighting design, but they’re made by Kaihua. ![]() ![]() Advance tickets are only available for 'Friends of Harpoon. So here again we see that while the Ultra is fast, it can't match the graphical performance of GPUs that are 2-3 years old at this point - at least, not in these synthetic benchmarks. Incidentally, that means it ranks below much older GPUs like Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 (85,639) and AMD's Radeon VII (86,509).Īs you can see, Apple's M1 Ultra currently ranks pretty far down the list in the OpenCL benchmark scoreboard. A GPU must have at least 5 scores uploaded to appear on the list, and currently Nvidia's GeForce 3090 (avg score: 205,031) and 3080 Ti (avg score: 209,081) are leading the list at 3rd and 1st place, respectively.Īpple's various M1 chips are on the list as well, and while the M1 Ultra leads that pack it's still quite a ways down the list, with an average score of 83,940. That's backed up by a cursory skim through the OpenCL Benchmarks browser, which publicly displays scores from different GPUs that users have uploaded. That machine earned a score of 215,034, which is more than double what the Studio turned in. Luckily, the folks at The Verge recently ran OpenCL on a gaming PC with a GeForce RTX 3090, an older 10th Gen Intel Core i9 CPU and 64GB of RAM. Now since we don't usually run OpenCL tests during our review process, I don't have a library of OpenCL results to share with you from our reviews of other PCs. That's quite good, but again it fails to outperform Nvidia GPUs in similarly-priced systems. ![]() When we ran our Mac Studio review unit through the Geekbench 5.4 OpenCL test (which benchmarks GPU performance by simulating common tasks like image processing), the Ultra earned an average score of 83,868. Apple M1 Ultra benchmark test resultsīefore we even get into the GPU performance tests it's clear that while the M1 Ultra excels at multi-core workflows, it doesn't trounce the competition across the board. All of the gaming PCs I just mentioned completed the same task faster, over 30 seconds faster in the case of the Origin Millennium. The Ultra-powered Studio also proved slower to transcode video than the afore-mentioned gaming PCs, taking nearly 4 minutes to transcode a 4K video down to 1080p using Handbrake. However, as you can see from the chart of results below, the M1 Ultra couldn't match its Intel-powered competition in terms of CPU single-core performance. Specifically, the M1 Ultra outperformed a recent Alienware Aurora R13 desktop we tested (w/ Intel Core i7-12700KF, GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB RAM), an Origin Millennium (2022) we just reviewed (Core i9-12900K CPU, RTX 3080 Ti GPU, 32GB RAM), and an even more 3090-equipped HP Omen 45L we tested recently (Core i9-12900K, GeForce RTX 3090, 64GB RAM) in the Geekbench 5.4 multi-core CPU benchmark. We ran the M1 Ultra through the Geekbench 5.4 CPU benchmarking test multiple times and after averaging the results, we found that the M1 Ultra does indeed outperform top-of-the-line Windows gaming PCs when it comes to multi-core CPU performance. The M1 Ultra does indeed outperform top-of-the-line Windows gaming PCs when it comes to multi-core CPU performance. Since our M1 Ultra is the best you can buy (at a rough price of $6,199) it sports a 20-core CPU and a 64-core GPU, as well as 128GB of unified memory (RAM) and a 2TB SSD. Notably, we ran the Ultra through the Geekbench 5.4 CPU benchmarks to get a sense of how effectively it handles single-core and multi-core workflows. That latter claim may be true, but in terms of real-world performance it's clear the M1 Ultra can't match the best GPUs from Nvidia and AMD. This slide from Apple's March press event promises the M1 Ultra can deliver GPU performance comparable to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 while drawing less power. ![]() HOWEVER, Microsoft tries to WEDGE its cloud service into my work-flow and it's confusing and annoying.
